One of the best things about Cape Town is the weather. Cape Town summers are beautiful but Cape Town winters are something to marvel at, too. Very few places in the world experience the kind of winter days that we have in the Mother City.
With fresh temperatures of just 10°C or lower you would expect the weather to be gloomy, but not in Cape Town, despite the cool temperatures the sun is shining down on the Camps Bay strip making it the perfect time to enjoy some outdoor, winter-friendly activities and take in the Mother City. There is no better way to do this than to hop on a bicycle and enjoy Camps Bay at a leisurely pace.
With the squeals of delight of the kids enjoying the outdoors and the gentle sound of the ocean in the background, we rented a bicycle from Up Cycles just outside The Bay Hotel and took it for a whirl. The orange, almost vintage looking bikes are easy to rent from a friendly vendor and the reasonable prices make it accessible to tourists and locals alike. The bikes offer a fantastic and fun alternative to exploring the seaside suburb.
We were truly able to take in the sights, smells and sounds of Camps Bay as we peddled by various vendors selling proudly South African wears and art along the side of the road, and were amazed to see many people on the beach, soaking up the sun and taking pictures of the stunning Atlantic Ocean view on this magnificent winter’s day. As we cycled along, the physical activity warmed us up which was a welcome feeling to curb the crisp afternoon air.

Camps Bay by bike is a joy to the senses and allowed us to look at this beautiful suburb with a childlike wonder. A winter activity to warm us up and get us moving and exploring the mother city in a fun and exciting way, this is not to be missed.
